Embedding Impact Into Research

The Research Excellence Framework (REF), the UK framework for assessing the quality of research undertaken at the nation’s universities, prioritises impact as a key measure of quality for academic research. In addition, more funding bodies are embedding impact into project guidelines, requiring funded research to have demonstrable impact within the wider society. This has meant it is more important than ever for academics to develop research that has an impact beyond the university setting, and a key way to achieve this impact is through policy input and change. The researchers involved with IMPACKT have experience with REF guidelines and the requirements of funding bodies on impact, and will work with academics to improve the policy impact of their research. In addition to the impact toolkits provided on this site, the team are also willing to engage with individual researchers on bespoke pathways to impact for specific pieces of research.
